The Pool

Well now that this college football stuff is over (well except a couple of meaningless bowl games. Actually Ive decided that all bowl games are meaningless until theres some sort of playoff in place. But thats another subject for another time. But I will say this, Wisconsin got totally screwed by being left out of the BCS. I mean 11-1 and they get left out by a rule. And Nort Dame is in being where they got squashed against the only 2 decent teams they played. They played Navy, Army, Air Force, Stanford. I mean come on. But I digress....) (We always have to make a special case for them. "But we're Nort Dame. We need special rules in order to have a chance at the BCS." When Im Commissioner of the Universe this Nort Dame entitlement will stop I promise you.)

(starting over) Well now that this college football stuff is over we can start in on NCAA Hoops!

Conference play is starting. We have a little over 2 months before the brackets are released. March 11th at 5pm on CBS. (I believe the selection show will be broadcast in High Def so get those plasma screens purchased and installed by then. I recommend not going any smaller than 42" on the plasma purchase.)

The pool will go on as it has since 1989. We'll crown the 19th champion this year. I believe thats the longest running NCAA pool in recorded history. The ancient Mesopotamians had one running for 18 years but then the Mongols horned in on their action and it ended.

The blog will again be up and running at http://jeffspool.blogspot.com/

Ill start adding very important info as soon as a couple of conf games are in. Ok the info wont be important or even interesting for that matter but it does afford you a break from work.

The Friday Funday plans are also in effect for the first round this year. BW3 in New Berlin will again be the destinated meeting place for eating, drinking and watching. Games start at 11am. We'll show up early. Ask the boss for those days off not to beat the rush. When I got my job its one of the first things I told (not asked, told) my boss. "Ill be taking the thursday and friday of the 1st week of the NCAA tourney off." He heartily agreed. That first year he went with me to a bar and watched the games.

In case you havent been paying attention, our own Wisconsin Badger have risen (rose?) (have risen... have rose... Hmm I think either will work) to #4 in both polling systems. All time high for the Buckster. Buck plays Minny this sat and then a huge matchup with Ohio State a week from today.
So i expect everyone will have their eyes glues to tv sets throughout the ... well throughout the world really as Bucky chases another conf championship and trip to the dance.

Until I met you, I never had the notion of taking Thursday and Friday of the tourney off. It makes perfect sense. I don't get any work done, I'm constantly watching the the scoreboards on ESPN.com, and I need an official "beer at 11 am day" that I have not scheduled since graduating. I will be enjoying the big screen action at BW3 located in Brandon, Florida.

Hopefully, Joakim Noah will have a lackluster performance and the Gators will make an early exit. I don't think I can go through another year sitting next to Joe Gator.

Question: What is your stance on involving a signicant other in a tourney bracket? Sure actually watching sports together is an unfamiliar experience, but are there too many downsides? Too many questions about the game, too many remarks like "why does that ref keep blowing his whistle", "what is that little guy doing with all those big guys", and my personal favorite "that guy looks a little like Chris Rock."
